Q: What made you decide to play the character “Lane” in Only the Brave? Does this character inspire you in anyway?
I felt Lane had very strong feelings for this film which made it contagious for me to want to tell this story as well. It was also in a sense, a duty as an Asian-American to empower ourselves by sharing our stories of honor, respect, and courage that fill the history pages throughout America’s development. I felt compelled to play any character Lane put on the table, so it wasn’t one particular role that inspired me to get involved.
Q: What is your favorite role to date?
I really can’t say that there has been one favorite role to date, since so many of the experiences have greatly enhanced my life.
Q: What made you decide to go into acting? What would you be doing if you weren’t an actor?
I believe it was to find a sense of freedom. An ability to express myself through the sharing of my passion of emotions that I felt were locked up inside. I’m not really sure what other mischief I would have gotten myself into. For the past 12 years, I’ve been doing a great deal of gardening and designing so maybe those kinds of things.
Q: What is the one thing that you would like the world to know about you?
That I dream of someday sailing around the world in a small boat.
